You have been asked to design a warehouse for a company that makes standardized and customized
computers. The computers are made in China and shipped to your location in Texas. When customer orders a
customized unit, the necessary modifications are to be made in your Texas facility to the standardized unit. It
takes 3 days for a unit to be customized in your facility. Your marketing department anticipates that 40% of the
sales will be for customized units. Standardized units are cross docked and sent to retail outlets across the
country. In addition, the company sells accessories that have to be repackaged in your facility prior to being
sent to retail outlets. With all of these logistical details in mind, make suggestions for the following:
What would you recommend for a flow through pattern and why?
Based on the functions the warehouse will have to perform, what rooms or spaces would you need, for
example, restrooms?
