Viewing and Reviewing Notes II

Order Description Rescreen?the your chosen sequence or a scene from the film 'Into the Wild'.? Take notes addressing the following questions: Who do we see in this sequence?? Who don?t we see? What does the director include in the shots within this sequence? How do the shots relate to one another in sequence? How is our perception of the scene managed through selection, arrangement and exclusion? Selection: what do we see in the frame? (And when) Exclusion: what is left out of the frame/off screen (for now/in that beginning) Arrangement: what's in focus? In the foreground? How do elements on the screen interact? How does the camera?move? Do patterns emerge? ? Organize and type your notes.? Once?you?ve?done so, and on the same page(s), write a paragraph answering the following question: ? ?How does this sequence convey its meaning?cinematically?? (adapted Nichols 446). ?You will, of course, refer to the relationship between this sequence and the film generally. ? ? In this first attempt at screening notes, you will not be required to master the language of film analysis.? However, you may wish to try to employ some of the language we have begun to use together.
