from the video, did you notice how :

She began with an introduction to why they were meeting. She said to the children, "I pulled you together today because I want to work with you on…."
She discusses the strategy, describes how to use it, and then shows students how (demonstration). Did you notice how she re-directed them when the little boy made a comment that wasn’t about how the characters were feeling. She valued him comment, “That’s true,” and then re-directed them to think about character’s feelings.
She has students practice in their own books as she listens in and probes their understanding with one-on-one questions. She asked students to look at their stack and pick out a book that has characters. Each child brought a stack of books they could read on their own and practice what they were learning. Notice that every kid did not have to have the same book in order to participate in this small group lesson.
She provided a list of words to describe characters’ feelings (it is also important to note that she previously used this with the children and they were already familiar with this list).
She listened to each kid and had them talk to her about how the characters were feeling.
She brought them back together at the end and reviewed the strategy. She told them, “This is something you can try back at your seats… (and proceeded to tell them how.) It’s important for children to understand that they need to practice and try what they learn when they are reading independently. This is an important thing to remember when closing out small group instruction so children know they are expected to try what they are learning when they are working independently.
-After watching the video take notes on what you notice across the conference.
-After you've watched the video write two paragraphs explaining what developmental stage of reading ( from the files) you feel like these children are in and why.
