This case is referenced at the end of the chapter. This shows us one the most serious flaws in our criminal
justice system. This is a real eye-opener and shows us the hard work by those involved with the innocence
project. In 2016, after spending more than 33yrs. behind bars, Keith Harward was released from a
Virginia prison when DNA evidence proved him innocent of the murder and rape for which he was initially
convicted. For your paper this week, I want you to elaborate on the following: Should prosecutors be
punished for brining charges against defendants such as Harward who turn out to be innocent? If so, what
would be an appropriate punishment? What does the government owe Mr. Harward for this blunder? Can
he ever be compensate for serving over three decades in maximum security prison? What can be done to
ensure that states don't make these types of errors?
