This chapter focused mostly on uranium mining in the United States and Australia, yet a significant amount of
uranium is mined in less-developed countries in the Global South. Write a short essay on the uranium sector in
Niger, Namibia or Uzbekistan (choose one). What percentage of your chosen country’s GDP does uranium
extraction account for? What are the primary export markets for the uranium mined there? Does your country
have any domestic nuclear power plants? From what you found, does it appear that there are prominent (social
