Mexican American and Japanese American farm workers fighting for better working conditions and wages.
Identify two ideas (stories) that you want to focus this project around. These stories MUST be centered on the collaboration of two underrepresented communities (ethnic/cultural), social movements, or individuals (representing their community/movement) in the fight for social justice. I will include some examples at the bottom of this outline. What I do not want are proposals centered on an oppression or issue that impacts two different or multiple underrepresented communities, the proposals should CENTER on the collaborative work on two or more communities working together to fight against a systemic oppression. So the stories should be told from the perspectives on these communities and not framing it around the oppression alone. ---The proposals should explain the method in which you will deliver the stories, examples include: spoken word, short film, mural, poster, play, short-story (written) or music. You are not limited to these examples but I will not approve power points or that type of media.
Remember this is only a proposal and I will be giving feedback on them, enjoy the process and find something that really sparks your interest and a story you will invest in. You will definitely need to do some research in looking for the specific type of stories I am expecting (the intersections of communities) working together for social change. A few examples include:
---Mexican American and Japanese American farm workers striking together in Oxnard, Califomia fighting for better working conditions and wages. ---Malcolm X and Yuri Kochiyama working together to fight racism. ---Different Tribal Nations, Black Lives Matter and other Indigenous groups protecting the Water at Standing Rock. r‘ctivate Windows ---Grace Lee Boggs working with and on behalf of the Black/African American community in Detriot.
