U.S. Healthcare Early 1900's Milestones

Major milestones and accomplishments have been instrumental in forming today's healthcare system. These major milestones are divided into four sectors and, according to Niles, the milestones for each provide an introduction as to how each sector has evolved to form part of the U.S. healthcare system.
1.) Within the “Medicine and Medical Education” sector, use the following milestone:
In 1910, Abraham Flexner wrote an evaluation of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada, indicating that many schools were substandard. The Flexner report led to standardized admissions testing for student, called the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), which is still used as part of the admissions process today.
2.) Within the “Nursing Education” sector, use the following milestone:
In 1914, there was a critical demand for specialty nurses, due to World War I.
3.) Within the “Hospital and Healthcare Systems” sector, use the following milestone:
In the 1920’s, the development of medical technological advances increased the quality of medical training and specialization and the economic development of the United States.
PART A

  1. Describe each of the three milestones in detail.
  2. Cite circumstances/issues that led to each milestone’s creation. Cite resources to describe each milestone.
  3. Describe the resulting impact of the healthcare issue that each milestone was developed to address.
    PART B
Describe how the three (3) milestones intersect, enhance, or supplement each other.
