Order Description Critical Analysis Paper •Formally analyze the film integrating a critique of the film’s techniques and devices (cinematography, sound, editing, etc) with how they form meaning. This critique can also explore thematic issues i.e. questions of the horrific, etc. •A good formal analysis will require several viewings of the film. •Feel free to position your critique/analysis in response to something you have read about the film, but make sure to make this explicit and cite your reference. •If you do not make reference to any outside sources, you do not need to include a works cited or bibliography. Research Paper •Research any aspect of the film, but make sure to formulate your own thesis and not just summarize the material you find. •Topics may centre on a theme or themes in an individual film on questions of genre or on an aspect of the historical or industrial dimension of the film’s production, distribution or exhibition in; or on another relevant area. •Your research must extend beyond material provided on the syllabus. Whichever option you choose you should have a well-developed thesis statement.
