Theology of feminism

Please watch this video which was on the USF landing page for Earth Day with the title: Honor Thy Mother:https://vimeo.com/483160130
Note that this phrase comes from The Ten Commandments (the Fifth Commandment): “Honor thy father and mother” (Exodus 2-:12). This is related to what we have been discussing about ecofeminism, and how the Earth has been codified a feminine gender. Perhaps that is due to the fact that nature reproduces, or that ecology is concerned with interconnection. Why do you think the Earth has been considered feminine? There is no right or wrong answer. I just want you to start thinking about gender outside of the human realm. Why do you think we call it Mother Earth and Father Time, or Father God? Is Mother Earth respected and revered as much as Father Time/God? Please give examples of ways that you see this in society to support your answer?

If you grew up outside of the Christian tradition, does your culture or religion consider nature to be feminine? If nature is not a concept in your culture, are there parts of nature that are gendered? (For example, in Hinduism there is prakriti–the feminine, nature–and purusha–masculine, soul. Or perhaps in your culture the sun is considered masculine but the moon is feminine).
