The Rio Declaration

The Rio Declaration - it provides a set of 27 principles which signatory nations agree to follow but they are not enforceable unless they are included in national or State laws. Choose one of those principles (polluter pays (#16), precautionary principle (#15), impact assessment (#17)) and describe how it has been applied in Australian law. 1) Choose one particular aspect of environmental regulation topics covered for more in depth investigation. (see the above heading of topic) 2) Describe the objectives of that regulation (ie. what environmental problem(s) is it concerned with? 3) Describe the mechanism for dealing with the problem(s) provided in that particular form of regulation. 4) Discuss how successful that regulation mechanism has been in dealing with the relevant problem(s) supported by reference to any relevant data or case studies that you have found.
