Question I chose: Fences represents the relationships of fathers and sons in several passages - Troy and his two sons, Troy and his own father. Consider how this relationship is depicted in the play, and generate a thesis answering the following question: Does Wilson see fathers as something sons inevitably have to overcome, or does he offer a more positive idea about the relationship? (This is important. I wrote my thesis to answer this question)
In focusing on developing their theses, students should definitely avoid plot summary: assume your reader knows the events and characters of the play you're writing about. MOST IMPORTANTLY, any compelling and persuasive argument will be supported from start to finish with textual evidence—illuminating quotations introduced by and followed-up with analysis of their specific language.
I have written the introduction paragraph. The last sentance of the intro paragraph is obviously the thesis which the essay is supposed to revolve around. Below is my tenative outline for how I planned to write it. You dont necessarily have to follow my outline but i do think it would be the easiest way to write it. You only need one quote for each body paragraph. My teacher is big on the analysis after the quote FYI. I have attached a style guide for writing our teacher gave us too if you need that as a refernce.
