  • Please apply 3 concepts from the course to your choice of a performance.
For example, script or text, character transformations, direction, acting, design (scenic, lighting, costume, sound), etc.
  • Reference directly at least 2 readings assigned during Weeks 1-3.
(*Any one chapter by Wilson & Goldfarb or by Campbell may count as one separate reading.)
  • Your paper should offer a clear thesis, which can be an argument about the show’s success. In other words, please write more than an evaluation of whether you “liked” the show or not. Consider instead some of the following questions:
What does the show attempt to “do” for its audience?
How successful is the production? By which criteria?
How do the production’s distinct theatrical elements contribute to the overall success of the show?
If necessary, include only a brief summary of the plot. Focus instead on the “live” performance aspects and on artistic choices.
Include as many details for the production as may be available (the production company’s name, date of the show, etc.), and please include a link to view the video, if it’s not a performance listed below.
We’ve listed links below to view performances for free. You may select one of the links below, or choose any other recording of a live event (*not film or TV) if it is available as a live performance filmed for the screen, in its entirety, in good quality resolution and audio.
