The Methuen Drama edition
“ You are required to submit a portfolio of evidence that documents your developing knowledge, skills and
understanding of the subject including module-based material. It will record your own research through written notes, sketches, photographs etc. in an electronic document as appropriate. Some material will be generated through workshop and lecture sessions within the module, but may need to be re-worked and re-presented.
The portfolio will use Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, pages 1-13, and 19-20 in the Methuen Drama edition, translated by Michael Frayn (Part of Act 1, including the section with the play-within-the-play on the outdoor stage, and the opening of Act 2) for the DSM’s prompt book). Scans of these pages can be found in the Learning Resources on Minerva BUT it is strongly recommended that you purchase the book, which has useful notes. A link to free edition of a translation (but not as good as Frayn’s) is also available in Learning Resources. The portfolio should also provide evidence of further independent study using library resources, web-based materials and other individual work (e.g. some of you may be able to use examples from practical and performance work that you are involved with). You should bear in mind that ALL the work you do on this module (and indeed any other current and appropriate material) could form part of the evidence of your learning and this means collecting materials as you go.
As well as providing evidence for assessment in this module, it is anticipated that this portfolio will form the basis of a personalised resource bank for further skills development in this area and will support your future practical and production work.
Important: you should reference all of your material, including images, diagrams and charts, appropriately. The School of PCI requires you to use the Harvard /MLA referencing system.
Refer to the guidelines here; http://library.leeds.ac.uk/downloads/tutorials/harvard-referencing/index.html and the *** web pages.
