This discussion is intended to help the student reflect on the limitations of preaching in series. While preaching in series has many extended benefits, this approach is not a be all and end all in Gospel communication. This discussion is an attempt to have a realistic conversation about the limits of series preaching.

Instructions

1. For your initial post, and in reviewing the content of this unit, consider how the series preacher responds to the following situations when in the middle of a series:
   o A national disaster such as 9/11
   o The death of an esteemed member of the church
   o Some kind of church or local community scandal
   o Events of the Christian calendar- Christmas, Easter, Pentecost Sunday, Passion Week, etc.
   o Events of the national calendar- Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.
   o Any other unusual event
   o What other limitations do you see to series preaching?
   o What other limitations do you see to series preaching?
