Option 1 Topic: Gaydar? (topic goes at top so classmates can see it) Although sexual orientation is a perceptually ambiguous category, we often use indirect cues such as gait, speech, and facial features, to determine whether a person is gay or lesbian. First impressions about a person’s sexual orientation are so powerful that they can override what we learn about people later (Stern et al., 2013). Discussion Questions (copy each question and answer it): Defend and refute using these indirect cues as indicators of a person’s sexual orientation using some of the theories discussed in Chapter 11. Describe a personal account of mistaking a person’s sexual orientation based on indirect cues or stereotypical behavior (if no experience doing this, choose another topic). Back up your stance and reference Chapter 11 in your answers. (300 words) Listen to the podcast: "The Legal Vulnerability of Roe" then answer both questions. 1. Assess the plausibility of Roe v Wade being overturned. Be sure to include the podcast's discussion on the make up of the Supreme Court and how the 'privacy' versus 'equal protections' legal strategies weigh in. 2. Many argue that perhaps we don't end the abortion debate, we narrow it. What middle ground do you see in the debate?
