- The fruit listed in “The Goblin Market” is vast and covers fruits from different places and that are not in-season in the summer time, which is the time of this narrative poem. For examples, the goblins offer the sisters cherries, pineapples, apples, pears, peaches, dewberries with citrus and more. Nowhere would they all be found, in the 19th century, at the same time in one market. Likewise, not all the goblins have the same fruits; they vary. What reasons can you give, supported by the tale with two direct quotes, why this is? And, what allegorical or symbolic meaning does this have, and why?
