The Division of Labor in Society

You are responsible for one post to the course website discussion board where you apply the insights from one
of the course readings to a news story in the Los Angeles Times. Posts should not be longer than 200 words
and should include a link to the article. A post receiving a 5/5 will very briefly describe the issue or process
explored in the reading (2 points) while using concepts from the reading to briefly analyze a contemporary
issue discussed in a Los Angeles Times article (3 points).
Here is an example: “In The Division of Labor in Society, Emile Durkheim describes organic solidarity as a form
of societal interdependence that prioritizes weak rather than strong social ties. In [title of article], [author]
discusses the importance of COVID-19 social distancing to “flatten the curve.” In a society that is characterized
by mechanical solidarity it might be more difficult to socially distance given how social solidarity is created by face-to-face interaction.
