  • Example: Building a community center, implementing a job training program, or creating a community garden. Community capacity development is a tool used to help achieve community development.  
  • In short, community capacity development is a subset of community development.

The Importance of Empowerment in Community Service:

Empowerment is fundamental to effective community service because:

• Sustainability:
  • Empowered communities are more likely to sustain positive changes over the long term. When community members feel ownership and control over initiatives, they are more invested in their success.  
• Self-Determination:
  • Empowerment respects the right of communities to determine their own needs and priorities. It avoids paternalistic approaches that impose solutions from the outside.
