“The critical path method (CPM) is a technique that’s used by project managers to create a project schedule and estimate the total duration of a project. The CPM method, also known as critical path analysis (CPA), consists in using a network diagram to visually represent the sequences of tasks needed to complete a project. Once these task sequences or paths are defined, their duration is calculated to identify the critical path, which determines the total duration of the project.” (Project Manager, 2022)
The critical path is crucial for the completion of a project as it allows me to estimate the duration of the project, completion of 6 months which results in a completion date of 1/1/2020. Essentially use my project charter as a guide for my critical path, I will identify resource constraints, and project risks which are:
• Website does not meet user requirements or functionality
• Shannon Valley and Steve Quan are not available to contribute to the project until July 15, 2019
• Marketing department has not endorsed the append roach believes they should go with Microsoft SharePoint system
• Security of intranet/portal: no external access beyond firewall
By remaining within the scheduled timeframe and properly managing all aspects of the project completion of the project should be on or before the scheduled date.

Determining the critical path for a project is essential to determining the minimum amount of time to complete the project. For HighLearn, the critical path is 6 months. The development of the portal is expected to take 50 weeks of work time to complete. On the critical path, work will be completed simultaneously so 50 weeks of work will take much less time than 50 weeks. The development of security for the portal is expected to take 29 weeks to completed. On the critical path work will be done simultaneously making this portion much less than 29 weeks. The creation and editing portion of the project is expected to take 17 weeks to complete. The work will also be completed simultaneously making the critical path time less than 17 weeks. Finally, the testing of the portal will take 30 weeks to complete. On the critical path, work will be completed simultaneously making the time to complete less than 30 weeks. Overall, the critical path takes 6 months to complete the project.
