This is my senior capstone project and my research topic is mass shootings.Research Question: Can media coverage affect future mass shootings? My professor made us come up with independent variables and dependent variables…. so my
Independent Variable- The amount of coverage a mass shooting receive

Operational definition (defining the IV)
Identify each news segment that’s mentions the term “shooter” or “shootings in their headlines. By browsing on the news sites will measure the amount of coverage the media gives a mass shooting versus a death from natural disasters or other crimes.

   C.  Dependent Variable-  The amount of shootings occurred after the media coverage?

Measure the number of death from other causes compared to the number of deaths from mass shootings.
He wants us to research and find how we are going to measure and where are we going to get our data from? for my analytical plan I suggested toTo investigate the research question data must be obtained from online data. For example, in order to know that media is associated with mass shooters, we can look and see if the shooters model the behaviors of past shooters. Maybe take a look at past shooters and recent shooters compared their behaviors/characteristics. It has been said that people are more interested in mass shootings than other types of tragedies. We can measure this by seeing how many news segments headlines give importance to shooting related stories compared to other tragedies such as natural disasters or crimes.
I will be attaching the outline the professor wants and the outline I have already done…. but you can make some changes on my outline what best seems fit to you. I need you to search on my school databases for scholarly peer reviewed articles and you can also you google scholars….but im going to need all those article sent to me bc im going to need to have hard copy of them. The website says they give free features for Annotated bibliography of each of the articles you choose and the reference page. For this research paper we are only allowed to use 3 IMAGES, 3 GRAPHS, and in text quotations.

   E. Hypothesis- Does less media coverage on mass shootings lead to a decrease in mass shootings in America?

Statement of prediction based on research question; Mass shootings used to be rare in America but over the year it has become a plague. I feel that the amount of media coverage the shooter gets for his, it can lead to other individuals thinking that they can do the same and get all the media’s attention. So I do believe media coverage can affect future mass shootings in America.
This paper is going to be done in parts so th progressive option …i need 1-8 pages by october 30th which consist of the iNTRODUCTION (statement of the problem) and the background research part.
