The work of Marie de France presents an image of love that is elevated and idealize. This is
the same type of love that one experiences in
Romeo and Juliet. On the other hand, "The
Miller's Tale" presents us with quite a different genre, that of the fabliau. As the textbook
describes it, a fabliau is "a short, funny, often
bawdy narrative in a low style." The Miller's Tale also presents us with a vision of love, but it is quite different from those in de France's lais. Contrast the ideas of love contained in
these two very different genres of literature,
