1. Explain, briefly, what the Anschluß was. When and where did it happen, and what was the public response?
   2.What were some of the factors that prevented Jews from escaping the German Reich, following the
   Anschluß? Refer to Bergen’s text in your answer.
   3.In what ways did violence towards Jews increase throughout 1938? Refer either to Bergen or to Friedländer,
   in your answer.
   4.What do the Kristallnacht riots tell us about German complicity? To what degree did average citizens join in with the violence, and what does this teach us about the level of latent antisemitism that existed in Germany and Austria?
   5.Optional, bonus question: How does an older, religious form of Judeophobia emerge from the photographs of the violence on Kristallnacht?
