2. Fallacies About Listening

  1. Selective Listening: Focusing only on specific parts of the message.
  2. Defensive Listening: Interpreting messages as personal attacks.
  3. Ambushing: Listening carefully only to find flaws and criticize.
  4. Pseudolistening: Pretending to listen while thinking of something else.
  5. Stage Hogging: Dominating the conversation and not allowing others to speak.

The most common fallacy is likely pseudolistening. This is because it's easy to tune out when someone is speaking, especially if the topic is uninteresting or if we're preoccupied with our own thoughts.

3. Personal Listening Improvement

Empathic Listening: This is the type of listening I need to work on. Often, I find myself focusing on my own thoughts and feelings, rather than truly understanding and responding to the emotions of others. By practicing active listening and seeking to understand the speaker's perspective, I can improve my ability to empathize and build stronger relationships.
