Text Analysis 2
Prepare a 950 word textual analysis. This written task will require you to go further in your independent analysis than is usual in class discussions. Texts will be distributed in class and posted on Blackboard. Your Text Analysis analysis should take the following form: - at the top of the page identify the text using the correct bibliographic citation (see POLSIS Essay Guide) - In the first 250 words of the textual analysis identify and describe the main arguments being presented in the reading. If relevant, identify visual signs such as images, format, symbols as well as emotional cues. - In the remaining 700 words, identify and critically assess the assumptions and implications of this argument. A critical assessment does not simply involve agreeing or disagreeing with the argument and providing reasons for this. Instead, you should identify the values that inform this position, and where these views are situated in relation to broader political and philosophical perspectives outlined in the course. Try to identify a vision of Indigenous-Settler political relationships that directs the author's argument, and consider the implications of this vision. This assessment item is not a research essay so you do not have a minimum number of references. However, you will probably need a few references from the reading that I upload. Wherever you use the ideas or words of another author you must cite them appropriately in the text and include them in a reference list.
