Technical Standard Development

A)First choose a biotechnology company that you would like to create a technical standard for. You could use
the same topic from your message board discussion or you could use an entirely different one such as say for
example genomic sequence data dissemination in online databases, a topic of current interest to ISO.
It can be a product, process, performance standard or a combination of the above.
Please try to decide on a new standard that does not already exist. Looking for similar technical standards
may still be informative though.
B) Next tell me more about this technical standard.
Provide a description of the standard and what you hope to accomplish in creating it.
For who specifically (academia, industry, etc.) is the standard designed towards? Be as specific as possible.
What are the potential advantages and potential disadvantages of making this standard?
C) Tell me about the organization needed in the creation of this standard.
Will this be designed as a local, national, or international standard?
Who will be your standard developing organization and/or sponser in the creation of this standard?
Who will be consulted in its creation? I.e. give some suggestions for a potential working group (make sure
you know what this is) and how it will be governed. (Hint: Most SDOs provide information on working groups
under their control.)
What is your communication plan with your working group? I.e. tell me how you plan to coordinate the
development process.
