For this assignment, you will either select a topic from the provided list or use a topic of your own at the approval of your instructor. Then you will use credible resources to conduct research on your selected topic. The product of your research will be a Strategic Threat Background Paper that covers the following requirements:
1) Summarize the current status of the selected topic.
2) Describe how the selected topic impacts or has impacted their mission.
3) Describe how the selected topic impacts or has impacted operations at higher levels, such as MAJCOMs and/or COCOMs.
4) Explain why the selected topic is a threat to National Security.
5) Describe the impact/relationship of the selected topic to one or more concepts from the following lessons.
a. Joint Operations: (such as traditional/irregular warfare, operations planning, joint functions, information environment, etc.)
b. National Strategy: (such as instruments of power, levels of war, competition continuum, etc.)
c. Operational Culture: (such as the influence of culture in the region, non-state actors, and security cooperation organizations/partnerships (i.e., NATO))
6) Open the paper with a purpose, contains outline of main points, and ends with summary/conclusion.
7) Paper flows logically through main points/topic to conclusion.
8) Grammar, format, mechanics, etc. are consistent with guidance in AFH 33-337, The Air Force Tongue & Quill.
9) Paper is two to three pages in length.
10) Any sources/references used/cited must be credible (i.e, from Air Force, DoD, or other credible publications/media; NOT Wikipedia).
