Instructions:
Review the information from lecture, and then complete the 2 parts (pages) of the assignment.
Part 1. Order the steps in one vocal fold vibratory cycle in the list below from 1-6 with vocal fold adduction as step 1 (already provided for you).
_ The vocal folds will return to midline via recoil and bernoulli’s effect. __1 Lateral cricoarytenoids, interarytenoids, and thyroarytenoid muscles contract.
Posterior cricoarytenoid muscles contract to abduct the vocal folds and speaker inhales.
When the subglottal pressure is greater than atmospheric pressure and the resistance at the level of the vocal folds, the vocal folds move away from each other.
Since the vocal folds are closed, air flow coming from the lungs build up below the vocal folds, increasing the subglottal pressure.
_ Repeat another cycle of vibration.
Part 2: Draw arrows and label the true vocal folds and the false vocal folds in the figure immediately below. Then review the 4 cross-section images below the dashed line. Organize the order of the images (using numbers) from closed to open to closed. Begin with vocal fold closure being image #1. Note the bottom to top pattern in vocal fold opening and closing.
