The UB Bee Herald
Advertising fees are an important source of revenue for any newspaper. In an attempt to boost these revenues and to minimize costly errors, the management of the UB Bee Herald has established a task force charged with the business objective of improving customer service in the advertising department. Review the task force’s data collection (data file attached) and complete the following questions.
Organizing, Visualizing and Summarizing Data
a)     Construct the graphical representation that you think it is the most appropriate for the Types of Errors and explain your choice.

b)     Create a Pareto chart to display the Cost of Advertising Errors.

c)     For the variable help desk calls, compute the appropriate numerical descriptive measures and construct a boxplot.

From historical data, the percentage of customer errors that are incorrect rate quotes is 0.2583. If a sample of 20 customer errors is selected,
e)     what is the probability that exactly 3 customer errors are incorrect rate quotes?

f)     what is the probability of at least 5 customer errors are incorrect rate quotes?

g)    what is the probability that between 3 and 5 (including 3 and 5) are incorrect rate quotes?

Normal Distribution and Sampling Distribution
The UB Bee Herald production department has embarked on a quality improvement effort. Its first project relates to the quality of the newspaper print. Each day, a determination needs to be made concerning how the newspaper is printed in terms of blackness, contrast, and sharpness. The overall rating of the print is measured on a standard scale in which the target value is 10.0. Data collected over the past year indicate that the overall rating is approximately normally distributed, with a mean of 10.5 and a standard deviation of 1.25. Each day, one page on the first newspaper printed is chosen, and the overall rating is measured. The printing of the newspaper is considered acceptable if the rating of the page is greater than 9.
h)    (5 points) Assuming that the distribution has no changed from what it was in the past year, what is the probability that the overall rating is below 9?

i)    (5 points) Above what overall rating 99% of the one page printing fall?

j)    (5 points) If production takes a random sample of 5 pages on the first print run, what is the probability that the mean overall rating is below 9?

k)    (5 points) Explain the difference in the probabilities calculated in (h) and (j).

l)     Calculate the sample statistics using the data attached and determine whether there is evidence that the population mean overall rating is less than 10.5. (Use 0.01 level of significance.)
