In 250-300 words, explain why soil is the most challenging construction material used in civil engineering. Based on your understanding of soil classification and soil performance, discuss the importance of identifying soils in engineering design. Summarize why it is important for engineers to take data collected in the field and in the lab, use it to identify soil parameters, and then connect those parameters to engineering design. Use photos/images and case studies (at least #2) to present your argument. Feel free to use Google Scholar to explore case studies that support your argument. Be sure to use geotechnical engineering language to explain the concepts. Cite all sources, as needed.
