Sociology - #5 The Protestant Ethic and The Spirit of Capitalism

5X8ER EXERCISES INSTRUCTION! This exercise is about: 5x8er #5 Excerpt Weber “The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism” Pg. 178-192 FROM A BOOK: Edles, Laura Desfor and Scott Appelrouth. Sociological Theory in the Classical Era—Text and Readings, 3rd edition. Sage. 2015. ISBN 978-1- 4522-0361-4 These are exercises designed to help you focus on the readings. You need to do five 5x8er exercises over the semester (note: more than five are assigned so that you can fit your workload to this requirement by choosing the five that work best for you—with the exception of the card on Marx which everyone must do). In order to do the 5x8er, you need to have read the assigned excerpt from the theorist under consideration and the Blackboard notes so that you have some context for what you are reading. They must be written on a standard 5’ x 8’ notecard (you may use both sides) and consist of the following: (a) your name; (b) the title of the excerpt you are reading, the date of its original publication, the name and dates of the author (all spelled accurately and correctly punctuated) (c) 4 clear and controlled sentences explaining what you see as the main argument of the excerpt, (d) a quote from the excerpt supporting your contention that this is the main argument (PUT THE NUMBER PAGE OF THE QUOTE), (e) 3 clear and controlled sentences saying how the quote supports your contention about the main argument as you have presented it above in (c); (f) 5 clear and controlled sentences applying the reading to a current event, something from your own life, a subject you are studying in another class, a work of art or popular culture (g) 2 clear and controlled sentences stating a core question or principle in the theory that you would take with you from this reading. These will be graded on a scale of 0-20 points depending on how fully, accurately, clearly and insightfully you do the assignment. Answer it in lists from (a) – (g) LIKE IT’S SHOWN ABOVE, don’t do it like an essay. (Please do it in ASA format/style): You can find the ASA reference format here: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/583/03/ THE SOURCE IS JUST FROM THE BOOK I PROVIDE. PLEASE USE FORMAL AND SOCIOLOGICAL WORDS AND DO IT WITH GOOD AND APPROPRIATE GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY.
