Discussion: Use of Group Designs in Program Evaluation
The group design that may benefit the foster parent training program is the one-group post-test design. This design is valuable in measuring the beginning exploration of program impacts (Dudley, 2020), the program is being implemented in numerous settings with little to no research available to the researcher (Plummer et al., 2014). This design is of particular benefit, as the training/intervention in question is going to be implemented “immediately” (Plummer et al., 2014). One group posttest-only design will meet the needs because this design takes less time (Dudley, 2020). Outcomes are an important starting point for program evaluation. A common myth is that service providers know what their clients need without evaluation (McNamara, 2006).
