Write an 6-page research-based paper in current MLA format that focuses on the history plays. The paper must include at least 6 scholarly references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. You must develop a thesis (an argument or expository approach) about the play and support your claim(s). It is permissible to use the response papers as a basis, but the thesis must be unified.
Sample thesis: In Richard II, Shakespeare dramatically presents the fall of the old order of monarchy understood in the idea of the king being God’s substitute. From what is seen in this play and the following play, Henry IV, Part 1, it is clear that Shakespeare sees this as a bad development (or, alternatively, a good development).
The paper will concentrate on 1 or more (even all 4) of the history plays (Richard II, Henry IV Part 1 and Part 2, and Henry V). It is strongly suggested, however, not to work closely with more than 2 plays. It will be difficult to develop a focused argument with more than that.
A works cited page (including the Shakespeare text(s) used within your paper) must be included in current MLA format. It will not be considered part of the total page count.
Suggested types of resources are literary criticism, historical, and theological sources. Online sources may be used but must meet these standards.
