Instructions
Part I: Set a SMART goal for your team. Describe the goal in terms of the SMART framework, providing evidence in support for each dimension of a SMART goal.
Part II. Describe potential risks of this goal and how you are planning to mitigate them.
Part III: Propose three strategies that help accomplish one or more of the following: (1) Make the goal meaningful; (2) Allow for autonomy in attaining that goal; (3) Enable teammates to use and learn various skills in attaining that goal; (4) Communicate the goal to your team in a way that aligns with the vision you created for your team (during Week 1).
Submit the goal and the strategies for evaluation.
Review criterialess
PART I - Is the goal aligned with the SMART goal framework? (Total: 0-10 pts)
Is it specific? (0-2 pts)
Is it measurable? (0-2pts)
Do you see evidence that it is agreed upon? (0-2pts)
Is there evidence that the goal is reasonable? (0-2pts)
Is there a clear timeline attached to this goal? (0-2pts)
Please assign “0” if you see no evidence that a particular dimension is addressed. For example, assign “0” if the timeline for the goal is missing entirely. Assign “1” if you see some evidence of the goal’s addressing a particular dimension, but that evidence is weak. For example, a person may say that the goal is reasonable, but you do not see evidence in support of this conclusion. Assign “2” if you see a particular dimension clearly specified with strong evidence supporting the conclusions. For example, in support of a reasonable sales goal, the assignment may cite past average sales numbers of their branch and/or those of the individual for whom the goal is specified.
PART II - Does the assignment discuss the possible risks of the SMART goal? These risks can range from conflicts among goals to constraints on learning and creativity. (Total: 0-5 pts)
Assign “0” if the assignment does not discuss any risks for a SMART goal. Assign “5” for an excellent description of the risks of a given goal with requisite mitigation strategies.
PART III- Does the assignment offer three concrete strategies to help accomplish one or more of the following: (Total: 0-12 pts)
Make the goal meaningful (0-3 pts)
Allow for autonomy in attaining that goal (0-3pts)
Enable teammates to use and learn various skills in attaining that goal (0-3pts)
Communicate the goal to the team in a way that aligns with the individual’s vision for his/her team (0-3pts)
Assign”0” on a given dimension if the assignment does not discuss that dimension at all. For example, there is no mention of making goals meaningful. Assign “3” for meaning if the assignment provides a clear, specific, and actionable strategy for making a goal meaningful.
