Self-guided research paper

In your self-guided research essay you will select a topic at your own discernment. Consider the lines of inquiry
we worked with in our Annotated Bibliography Entries. Consider questions like: Why did you choose this class?
What interested you about counterculture? Was it the subject matter or genre?
Begin by investigating a primary source. Your primary source is a literary piece like a script, book, short story or
fairy tale that you enjoy. Enjoyment is key as the more you enjoy the primary source the better, and more
thorough, your analysis of it will probably be.
Consider finding your primary source by starting at our screenplay reading and film viewing! It might not be the
primary text or medium you analyze in your research essay, but starting point for your work. What are major
symbols prevalent in the stories (blood, health, duality) or pieces we have read thus far and how do they
remind you of other texts? Whatever the starting point, that is where your investigation begins. Ask questions,
explore where finding more information about those questions leads.
