Satellite orbit

Homework #2
(Individual homework)

Data budget calculation.
For given information:

Satellite orbit: LEO, polar sun-synchronous orbit, 500km

GS track: Single direct overhead pass. For simplicity, assume a single pass per day.

Link budget closed at: 9.6 kbps for elevation from 20 to 40 deg
19.2 kbps for elevation from 40 to 90 deg
(You will need to estimate/calculate time spent within each elevation range. Find out how to do it.)

TX protocol: AX.25
For simplicity there is no need to consider bit stuffing, but you need to consider protocol overhead.

TX: Packets are sent sequentially with a 30ms break between two consecutive packets. The break is needed for the transmitter to prepare data for the next transmission. No data compression.

Error: Assume there are no errors in received packets and there is no need for additional error detection/correction and packet retransmission.

Camera: 640x480 pixels, RGB565 pixel format, no compression

To do:
1) How many AX.25 packets will be sent in order to downlink the entire image? (Perform simple calculation)
2) How many sat passes are required to send an image?
3) Design a spreadsheet which will provide the answer. Upload the spreadsheet to the BB. No need for a written report, just a spreadsheet with annotations.
