ROMAN OR "BARBARIAN"?
The East Roman (Byzantine) Diplomat, Priscus, while on a mission to Attila the Hun's court, encounters a Greek-speaking former Roman citizen who has joined the Huns and has become part of Attila's entourage (pp. 4-5). They have an discussion as to why the former Roman has gone over to the "barbarians". In your view, which of the two gives the most convincing argument, pro or con, for remaining part of "civilization"? From the Priest Salvian's short sermon, whose side do you think he would take, that of the diplomat or the former Roman?
