What is the text trying to do? What’s the purpose/goal? Why is the author writing this? How is it trying to do it (what techniques does it use)? Get into detail! How does the text you specific kinds of appeals to logos, pathos, and/or ethos to convince its audiences? (e.g., is there an argument from generalization? In appeal to values?) Who are the key audiences and how do you know? What key rhetorical context(s) where/when was this published and why does that matter in terms of audience, purpose, credibility, etc. you can also analyze how the text organization, tone, and or style affect persuasiveness. How well are it’s techniques suited to its purpose and the needs of readers? (World is approaching it’s goal with its audiences? Why/why not?). Discuss strengths as well as biases or weaknesses related to your rhetorical topics Dash when, how, and why do certain portions of the argument work better than others? Explain how effective that this text is for you and/or how effective you think it would be with other audiences and why. Your job is not to explain whether or not you agree with the text. If the author says bilingual education is great and you disagree, that’s fine, but it’s not the point of your essay.
