Both types of evaluation studies are invaluable because social workers need to know whether their clinical practice or social work interventions, are effective; similarly, social workers need to know whether the programs they are implementing are effective. Both apply directly to the social work profession and have critical implications. This activity will give you an opportunity to learn about both practice and program evaluation research, and then to consider which type of evaluation research ties in with your strengths, passion, personality and interests. Additionally, you will be able to apply the concept of randomization using clinical trials and other research designs used for evaluation research. Finally, you will be able to analyze the value of a particular methodological approach to research, specifically in relation to ethnic and diverse populations.
