Assignment Brief
You are required to complete the initial stages of a research project. It will involve carrying out secondary research, designing primary research and writing a research proposal.
Your choice of a research topic may be any subject which is relevant to your course of study. It is intended that the work you complete for this module may form the basis of a final year dissertation.
The assessment involves 3 tasks:
Task 1: a) INTRODUCTION - stating project title, and aim and objectives:
This should provide a clear and precise purpose for the research and some contextual background information on the topic
b) LITERATURE REVIEW – a critical summary of secondary research:
This should show that you have researched the topic from a wide range of current and appropriate secondary sources which must be referenced in the Harvard Style throughout.
Word count guideline: Introduction 300 words; Literature Review 1200 words
Task 2: METHODOLOGY – formulates a research design to collect primary data:
This should discuss research philosophies and approaches and include a critical review of alternative data collection techniques.
Word count guideline: 1000 words
Note: YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO COMPLETE ANY PRIMARY RESEARCH
Task 3: RESEARCH PROPOSAL – outlines a possible final year dissertation
Based on the work you have completed for the assessment you will write a proposal which will include a working title, clear aim and objectives for the research, and strategies for collecting primary data. It will also indicate some relevant secondary sources.
Word count guideline: there is no prescribed word count but please use the Research Proposal template as a framework.
Resubmission of Coursework:
In the event that you have been asked to resubmit the work, you are to complete the tasks as directed by the tutor with additional commentary on what you have changed in light of the feedback received from the first attempt
