Renaissance Architecture Research Paper with Diagrammatic Analysis

Study your assigned reading. Select two buildings, landscapes, or urban plans of a similar type to analyze in your paper (two churches, two palazzos, or two piazzas, for example). Your selected buildings should be part of the module content. Write a two-page research essay that explores organizational principles of the Renaissance. In what ways were the organizational principles an imitation of the ancient Romans, and in what ways were they unique? What were the organizational innovations of the Renaissance? How did your two examples differ over time? You will format your research essay on your 11" by 11" template. Your two-page research essay, formatted on your template, will include: Roughly one-half of your template will be your essay text. See "Organization and Structure" below for more detail on your text. The other half of your 11" by 11" sheet will include context images of your design and your own diagrams that show organizational guiding lines. Is there a ratio that informed the design? Is there a system of squares and circles? Your supporting images should further illustrate your key points. This is not a sketching assignment, and you do not need to hand-draw sketches. Where appropriate, add notation and diagrammatic information to illustrate your main points on your supporting images. Layout is important, so think about how you will visually balance your page. The 11" x 11" format should be on a template containing Assignment Title, Date, Module Number, Course Number, and School. Sources: Use notation for all direct quotes. Include a bibliography with at least five sources. Your sources should include the Palladio excerpt and can include your textbooks (Buildings Across Time and Global Architecture). Organization and Structure: Your two-page research paper should begin with an introduction paragraph that contains your paper's thesis. The introduction should be followed by statements and examples all designed to support your thesis. End your paper with a conclusion, which will summarize your findings and restate your thesis. The two pages of your text do not include images or your bibliography. Language: Correct use of the English language in terms of grammar, expression and spelling. Use professional vocabulary in descriptions and analysis of architecture. The essays and research papers are required to use proper research language; they are not letters or emails. Imagine them being in a publication that collects opinions and short essays related to one specific topic published for an audience that is professionally interested. Check your spelling and grammar—take advantage of the writing lab and/or all related options that are available if necessary. Images: List all image sources. They are often proprietary information. You are required to use images and diagrams to illustrate your points Deliverables: two page essay exploring and analyzing two buildings, landscapes, or urban plans of similar type, selected from the module content, with emphasis on organizational principles supporting images drawn from scholarly sources with your own analysis and annotation complete header information and professional presentation scholarly style (Modern Languages Association format or other format according to instructor) submitted as .pdf single spaced assignment is free of spelling and grammatical errors writing uses professional vocabulary paper uses at least five scholarly sources beyond assigned readings in bibliography (Palladio must be included, textbooks are optional as sources) all images are labeled and sourced all images are clear and of high quality images are presented with proportional fidelity (ex.: not stretched to fit) submitted on time Rubric: Strongly exceeds expectations: Paper exceptionally well written with excellent analysis and insight of main topic.
