Choose one of the following three essay topics. Be sure to address all parts of the question. Discuss specific
evidence and examples that support the points you try to make in your essay.
Paper is to be written in MLA format. Use a minimum of two academic sources. Your textbook can be one of
these sources. Do not use Wikipedia. Essays are to be 750-1000 words in length.
- Compare and contrast the components of two world religions. Choose two religions which are explored in
our textbook. Outline the basic belief systems of each religion including concept of deity, cosmogony, theodicy,
the sacred, and religious experience. In your comparison include both how the religions are similar and how
they differ from each other. - Religion and Society: explore the impact that religion has had on society throughout history. Include
religion's influence on politics, economics, social order, and individuals. This topic can be a more general
overview of religion's impact OR you may choose one or two specific religions and explore their impact in more
detail. - Throughout history women's treatment by religions has often been inconsistent with scripture or other sacred
texts. On one level women are general respected as life-givers and nurturers while on the other religions often
encourage or allow women to be treated poorly. Choose at least two religions which we have studied in our
textbook. Explore the history of women in these religions. What place have they held? What influence have
they had? How has that changed over time? What place and influence do women have in these religions
today?
