Religion

Part 1:

At the beginning of the class, you were asked how you define religion. Now that you have learned more about the academic study of religion, the varieties of religions around the globe, and, in this module specifically, reflected on what it means to be religious in the twenty-first century, how has your definition of religion changed? Are there religions or aspects of religions that would have been excluded or ignored in your previous definition?

Part 2:

Why do new religions emerge? What needs do they seem to fill? (Be sure to support your answer with historical examples from the emergence of religions) Choose one of the new religious movements—the one you feel is most likely to continue and possibly even grow into a “great religion”— and give reasons for why you think it has emerged, what needs it fills, and the secular factors contributing to its continuation and future potential growth.
