Testimonio writing

  1. Write a Testimonial to highlight and counter a particular myth/stereotype/misconception about you.
  2. Write an Urgent Message to Educators explaining what you think teachers/professors should do to address the issues you raised in your Testimonio.
  3. Be sure to integrate the following all readings:
    a. Ogbu (1987)
    b. Gibson & Koyama (2011)
    c. Lin, Drake & Conchas (2015)
    d. Aranda & Vaquera

*Testimonio writing is “told in the first person…and …[its] unit of narration is usually a ‘life’ or a significant life experience.” (Beverley, 1996)

You could write your Testimonio as a mini autobiography, a diary, a graphic novel, an interview, a poem, etc.

Testimonial writing is a way to give voice while narrating stories of oppression and marginalization.
