Discuss the connection of health disparities and nutrition – i.e. access to fresh, healthy food, affordability, diet and disease, etc. The first video shows a food utopia in a clearly high income neighborhood. The second video discusses race and health disparities. Columbus, GA experiences significant health disparities along race lines. Our African American population is impacted by cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer at significantly higher rates than our white/Caucasian population. There is an intimate connection between nutrition, health and socio-economic status.
b. How can we get access to fresh, healthy foods via gardens to lower income neighborhoods? How can we encourage healthy cooking and food preparation in lower income neighborhoods?
