Reflection
Reflect on your proceeding field period. What was something that you learned about yourself that was unexpected? sample Discussion 01: Transition from a Generalist to an Advanced Learner Reflect on your proceeding field period. What was something that you learned about yourself that was unexpected? Upon reflection, something that I learned about myself that was unexpected was how much I enjoyed group work. Before last field period, I was extremely nervous about speaking in front of a group of people. After co-facilitating/facilitating three groups, not only am I more confident in my approach to the facilitation of a group, but I am more comfortable with engaging with clients in a group capacity. Interestingly, I would not have expected that engaging with clients in groups would help to further sharpen my skills as it relates to engaging with them on a one-one basis as well. As I reflect on the previous field period, I acknowledge that there are many things that I have learned about myself that I did not expect. First and foremost, I learned that I am capable of managing the responsibilities of full-time employment, field placement, and a graduate school program at the same time while still attempting to balance family life. Most surprising was my comfort with presenting to/in front of a group. For years I have felt this overwhelming anxiety about public speaking yet since being charged with facilitating workshops at my field placement, that anxiety has seemed to dissipate. In fact the experience has helped to build my confidence in presenting in different arenas: a community board, a CEO of my agency's affiliate, board of directors, and to staff members at an event. Lastly, I have also learned that my skills and input are actually respected and appreciated. no references
