Realism v. Anti-Realism

Choose a favorite play, movie, television show. It doesn't have to be your "FAVORITE OF ALL TIME." Spend some time thinking about it and write down notes about its plot structure, characters, themes, production elements- music, scenery, costumes. Most of our entertainment will fall into the category of modern realism, which can be loosely defined as "real people doing real things." Most contemporary entertainment; however, has elements one or more anti-realism movements.

For this discussion, identify your choice of material. Then tell us 3 ways that it meets the requirements to be called realism. Be specific. Then tell us 2 ways that it breaks with realism and how you would classify these elements (Identify to what anti-realism movements these elements belong.) This is a challenging discussion designed to make you analyze what you experience. In order to succeed, review the textbook and look for what we might think of as "rules" or "guidelines" of realism and the anti-realism movements.
