Entering the practicum, I held a theoretical understanding of various counseling approaches. However, direct client contact brought these theories to life. Witnessing the impact of genuine connection on my clients solidified the power of this approach (Corey, 2014). Similarly, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) proved highly effective in assisting clients with challenging thought patterns and anxiety (Beck, 2011). However, the practicum also highlighted the importance of adapting approaches. While CBT yielded positive outcomes, clients with deeply ingrained cultural beliefs or complex traumas sometimes benefited more from a culturally sensitive or narrative therapy approach.
