Principles of Forensic Psychology

Background

The field of forensic psychology is diverse, with a number of subspecialties, roles, and responsibilities for professionals who choose to work in the field. Given the nature of the work of forensic psychology professionals, the theories that drive their work can be approached the multiple perspectives. As you strengthen your skills as a forensic psychology professional, it is important to be able to understand and apply the different perspectives to build collaborative working relationships with professionals in forensic psychology, psychology, and the legal field.

Directions:

Read the case study attached and write a 4-6 page essay examining the theories of criminal behavior and what may have led to the development of delinquent or criminal behavior. Compare key theories that could apply to the case and select the one that you find the most applicable. Provide a rationale for the theory that is most applicable, explaining how the theory applies to the case. Consider the various professionals from forensic psychology that may be involved in the case and discuss how the perspective of different professionals on the criminal theory may be similar and different, including rationale for why the differences may exist.

Include the following in your evaluation and support your evaluation with relevant details, explanations, references to the case, and/or research-based evidence:

Compare and contrast two key forensic psychology theories that apply to the case, selecting the theory most applicable to the case, provide rationale for why the theory is most applicable and how it helps explain and/or build an understanding of the delinquent or criminal behavior.
Identify the different forensic psychology professionals involved in the case provided and identify the specialized knowledge required by the different forensic psychology professionals involved in the case.
Compare and contrast the different roles the practitioners play in the case, the various functions they play, and how they interact with one another.
Discuss how the perspective of the different forensic psychology professionals on criminal theory may be similar and different, including rationale for why differences may exist.
