SCENARIO: Your supervisor has approved your research question and plan for studying some aspect of diversity and/or collaboration in a community group. Now it is time to conduct your literature review and develop your hypothesis and research plan.
ASSIGNMENT: In Touchstone 1, you developed a research question and prepared a preliminary bibliography for your literature review. You will now conduct your literature review, formulate your hypothesis and research plan, and develop a set of notecards that summarize your work.
REQUIREMENTS: You must create 8-11 notecards using the touchstone template below. Your notecards will include:

introduction card
research question card
literature review (4–6 cards)
hypothesis card
operational definitions card (if needed)
research method card

Notecards for Diversity and Collaboration Research Plan

Note 1: Introduction Card

Note 3-6: Literature Review Cards

  • Source 1:(Author, Year) – Title of Article/Book
  • Summary:Briefly summarize the key findings of the source as they relate to your research question.
  • Focus on:How the source discusses diversity, collaboration, community groups, or any other relevant aspects of your research question.
  • (Repeat for 3-4 additional sources)

Note 7: Hypothesis Card

  • Hypothesis:(State your hypothesis based on your research question and literature review) (e.g., Community groups with higher levels of diversity will experience greater challenges in collaboration but ultimately achieve more successful outcomes due to a wider range of perspectives.)

Note 8: Operational Definitions Card (Optional)

  • Key Terms:(List any key terms in your research question or hypothesis that need operational definitions)
  • Operational Definition:(Define each term in a way that is measurable and specific to your study)
    • (e.g., Diversity: For the purpose of this study, diversity will be measured by including the following factors: race, ethnicity, gender, age, and socioeconomic status.)

Note 9: Research Method Card

  • Research Method:(Specify the research method you will use – e.g., survey, interview, case study)
  • Justification:Briefly explain why this method is appropriate for your research question.

Remember to replace the bracketed information with your specific details. These notecards will serve as a starting point for your research plan and will help you stay organized as you delve deeper into your chosen topic.
