Prescribing for older adults.

Considering other medication is equally essential when
prescribing for older adults. The geriatric population is known for taking multiple medications, both prescribed and over the counter ones. Unfortunately, there are many negative consequences associated with taking multiple medications. Taking multiple medications has been associated with an increased risk of adverse drug events (ADEs), drug- interactions, medication non-adherence, reduced functional ability, and various geriatric problems. Drug-interaction is one of the causes of preventable ADEs and medication-related hospitalizations,
(Maher, Hanlon, Hajjar, 2013). Therefore, practitioners should keep the possibility of drug interactions in mind when prescribing any new medications.
